Ammunition Prices Chart - It's no secret that the ammunition market has been volatile (to say the least) since the Covid pandemic took hold, but some calibers seem to be on the decline while others are on the rise. Redditor Chainwaxologist owns the online hunting and fishing store FoundryOutdoors.com, so in order to keep his ammunition costs and supplies competitive, he decided to track the trends in ammunition costs of the most popular calibers. Chainwaxologist used their findings to create a handy chart to show these trends in a friendly format in one place to help us visualize the data. You can read the chain waxologist's observations below.
I'm back with more ammo prices. I own an online hunting retailer (FoundryOutdoors.com) so I note ammo prices on Ammoseek every few days because ammo is a big part of our business. Needless to say, it was a painful year for our ammunition sales with limited inventory available. Since the previous update in June 2021, we have seen a large overall drop in price per round from June to August, only to see a return to higher levels in early September, likely due to increased demand from the hunting season. Several calibers saw a 25%+ increase in CPR prices in August alone, namely the 308 Win and 7.62x39mm. Other calibers such as 380 Automatic, 9mm, and 22LR saw weaker growth, probably due to the fact that manufacturers prioritized production of these calibers during the pandemic, leading to increased supply; the fact that these calibers are not typically used for hunting probably also helped keep demand levels stable. We've seen a 5-20% drop in prices across the board from early September to now, which means that in most cases CPR is still 5-10% higher than the lowest prices we saw in July/August . I've also spoken with several of the nation's largest ammunition distributors, who have sadly agreed to an outlook of limited ammunition supplies and elevated prices through 2022. The data here is consistent with that outlook, but perhaps with a glimmer of hope, as prices is currently, it is decreasing. again.

I would like to thank Chainwaxologist for his diligence in documenting our situation and for giving us permission to share his photo and his observations! A reader asked him about the inclusion of steel-casing ammunition, to which Chainwaxologist replied that he strictly takes the highest (cheapest) quote for a caliber in AmmoSeek.com that would include steel cases while accounting for ammunition cost trends, but still gives us. general , the general picture of the whole situation.

I was surprised to see that the 7.62×39 is actually on the decline since the recent Russian ammo ban. Is there anything in the ammo cost trend chart that surprised you?
